ABOUT THE ARTIST
Hello and welcome! I am a realist painter & ceramicist who creates bodies of artwork centered around the various locations I travel to. I find inspiration from the innate beauty of the natural world, contrasted by the intricacy of unnatural textiles. As a Christian, I view nature as God's intentionally designed and masterful handiwork. I believe that the natural elements are all sculptures crafted by the divine, and that when observing the surrounding world, thousands of uncaptured paintings lie in wait. Through realistic painting, I aspire to describe and respond to these observations while employing colorful maximalism to encapsulate the lavish abundance of beauty in creation.
Using textiles in sculpture is a way for me to actively participate in and be an extension of the special creation process already observed in the natural world. I desire to elevate perishable textiles by immortalizing them through sculpture, striving to dignify their humanistic usage and construction. In the same way that fabric covers and adorns the body, nature covers and adorns the land. My work showcases "the fabric of an area" both metaphorically through my paintings and literally through my fabric pots, which tell the story of textiles in the various locations I feature in my work.
